Five individual initiatives designed by participants of BGLP have now been selected for funding!

Following their training in the BGLP course materials, and based on their excellent project designs, 6 women from BGLP have now become project managers in their own right.

  • Yvonne Breckterfield, Suva, Fiji: Yvonne's project will provide leadership training for rural women in Fiji in the areas of good governance, direct participation of rural women in achieving poverty reduction, and through the set-up of a microfinance group. Training courses will be held in Rabi, Taveuni, Savusavu, and Namosi.
  • Christina Mitini, Honiara, Solomon Islands: Christina's project seeks to strengthen the capacity of Women and Young Girls in Vura Three Neighbourhood and educate them on the Solomon Island Electoral Process.
  • Kori Toua, Port Moresby, PNG: Kori's project aims to develop and implement an awareness-building program of the Motukoita Assembly Act and gauge views on an ID/Accreditation Voting System for Women in the Western Region of the Motukoita Assembly.
  • Samani Pupdi, Port Moresby, PNG: will review and pilot the Bottom-Up Governance and Leadership for Women with twenty five female candidates. Based on the outcome of this project, BGLP may be replicated as a continuing field of study for women leaders and potential leaders in PNG.
  • Cheryl Perroco and Lydia Frank, Alotau, PNG: Cheryl and Lydia's project will provide leadership and governance training for women (including women living with HIV/AIDS) in Milne Bay, Papua New Guinea.

Each of the initiatives have been given USD $5,000 in funding. We look forward to seeing some great results come from each of these projects. Well done ladies!
