Alotau, Milne Bay Province, Papua New Guinea - Woman in Leadership and Human Rights in Milne Bay
Implemented by Ms Cheryl Perocco
Cheryl's
project aims to engage women (including women living with HIV/AIDS) in Human
rights and Leadership training by making them aware of the roles and functions
of some of the Democratic Institutions within the country.
The objective`s
of this project include:
- Introducing women to Leadership skills and human rights
- Motivating women to take up Personal leadership and human rights in their communities
- Providing guidance and assistance in accessing services or information from Democratic Institutions
This seeks to
counter the problems women face when they lack knowledge in understanding their
rights and freedom, by training them in this regard and helping them explore
their personal leadership and capabilities.
So far Cheryl has completed a baseline survey and
conducted workshops with fifty rural women in to train them in governance and
leadership. Cheryl plans to hold another training session in June.
